Re: Turbo Choice 8 valve mpi

Austarion is an invaluable source of info on the SOHC.... What I gathered from reading over the years; stock piston ring land design are the weak links. Small window for tuning error. Some ran DOHC pistons as a replacement. A lot stronger, but lowers compression vs stock sohc. even with some regrind...

Re: Turbo Choice 8 valve mpi

oh, precision 5557 & 5558 turbos are top shelf performers also... even in the 0.48 t3 turbine housing

I personally prefer the simplicity, lighter weight and compactness of oem style integral wastegates
Works fine on 10sec street cars

Re: Rear Strut Assembly question

The main benefit of shorter cartridges in shortened housings, is that it will give the needed additional suspension travel IF car is/will be lowered

Re: Turbo Choice 8 valve mpi

gt30 has a bigger hotside and won't have to work as hard at 300 my favourite is the plain old tech journal bearing low cost t3/t4 hybrids. Tough old dogs. Proven excellent performers. Billet wheel option, kicks them up a notch too Can be set up in so many flavours, so you can dial in response & ...

Re: HEAD GASKET

many folks refer to their head gasket as 'the fuse.. Better than damaged pistons, if that's the case.

Too many monsters out there run plain old composite head gaskets
On a good tune, you shouldn't need 'the best gasket', I reckon

Re: CLUTCH

3,4,5,6 and even full face discs used in all sorts of applications. Too many compounds & clamp rating to make a genraliztion imo For example, a DSM guy worked at a shop that relined industrial truck brake shoes. He tried a compound on his clutch disc(full face) When drag launching, the stock pre...

Re: CLUTCH

sound like the typical mpi 2.0L sohc proven recipee. Nice! 300 ft-lbs is effortless for a tbi 2.6, so I'd think 350nm is no prob for a mpi 2.0 custom twin plate surely sounds "exotic" ? single plate 'upgraded' clutch hold 500+ ft-lbs tq, with slightly more pedal effort than the soft...

Alot of full weight 2.6 street starions making 300+ ft-lbs torque, run ebay XTD clutches or from http://www.clutchcityonline.com/ cost less than $200. Valeo, exedy, daikin components etc.. No need for silly stiff pedal either. LUK performs well also Dunno how your "track use" affect perfor...

Re: late model evo engines, T56 5 speed box

even all the older 4G are amazing motors. In acceleration competition it has destroyed almighty 2JZs! there was a nice starion with late evo motor swap, posted on starquestclub a few years back but I can't find it now All the info you need here.... starion should be an easier swap than the smaller c...

Re: Manual steering

over the past few years, several corolla owners said they would do a detailed writeup of their EPS conversion. None did
Seems like you can sift thru info online nowadays, and perhaps come away with enough info to d.i.y.

Re: Manual steering

race car is the only situation I can see power steering might be less desirable. I'd hate a staz without PS
Does the reservoir empty itself to the point where there is no more power assist ? Overfill maybe ?

Re: gearbox/diff power

seems like a really oddball problem. It's great to have sharp mitsu minds around, to get it sorted.
Dunno what would've happened in this sort of instance otherwise.... Good job!! :beer
