Hydraulic or Manual Timing Belt Tensioners

Postby Neil » Tue May 12, 2015 3:52 pm

What are peoples thoughts on using a manual belt tensioner rather than the stock hydraulic unit?

Maybe something like this :

I'm going to get a new one when I build the twin-cam anyway, so now I just have to decide which one.

Does anyone know if you need to "re-tension" the manual one after a certain amount of Km's or is a set and forget affair?

Cheers

OK, maybe I should just go with a new hydraulic tensioner (even though the manual one may be cheaper).
Would still like anyone's thoughts on the matter....

From what i've read the manual tensioner does require re-tensioning i don't know how often it's required though. Might be good if you're racing it all the time though? If you use a good quality new hydraulic tensioner it should be fine, thats what ive got for my twin cam build.
