WTB - Price of NOS genuine JA Turbo Charger assemby

Postby Grant » Sat Dec 02, 2017 7:10 pm

WTB - I would appreciate genuine advice on the cost of a original Mitsubishi NOS (New old stock) JA Turbo charger.
These units cost at the time approx $2000 AUD in the 1980's from Mitsubishi.
Given they are now unavailable, what would be a fair price, all things considered ie item is in excellent condition in original packaging?
This item would most likely suit a showroom restoration project or show vehicle with original being the focus I would think and is quite valuable indeed.
Thank you in advance for your advice. Please save any BS comments and use them for other online sites please.
Regards
Grant

Interesting scenario with the price of NOS JA Turbo.
These days you can buy replacement cores for $500 and go from there!

I personally wouldn't replace a TC06 'oil' only cooled turbo.
I would go through the trouble of getting my set up 'oil' & 'water' cooled as in the JB set up.
These days you normally get TD06 arrangements with better internals and slightly bigger compressor wheels to match
the large turbine wheel at the back. Say, TD06 14A & 17A which can be made to fit in the standard compressor housing.

So, to answer your question, it's probably a $600-700 item inc exhaust housing providing there isn't much play in the unit.
There is also the aspect of 'shelf life' as bearings and seals become hard over time...

Thanks Mal for your feedback with other options that make sense to go down the modification path.
I am a supporter of standard / original condition / spec's where possible.
It is not easy to value parts.
Fair prices for good new and used parts that are no longer available are a source of frustration, conjecture and argument for buyers and sellers at times.

I'm not really sure what the objective of this post is as it seems misleading.
WTB would indicate you 'want to buy'?
It seems like you have this part in possession and wish to sell it?

Anyway, the core shown for sale in the link above is a quality standard replacement not upgrade.
As mentioned, a turbo that's only oil cooled is not desirable!

Starion parts that 'are' in demand and would fetch good prices are LSD's, rust free body parts including scooped bonnet,
front and rear spoilers, suspension parts, certain electrics and upgrades in later models such as 5 stud and widebody wheels.
I hope that sheds some light regarding buying & selling these parts.
